Just two days remain to apply for the 20 temporary Education Officer roles in Teagasc.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Thursday and Teagasc is expecting a large influx of applications over the final few days open to applicants.

The move to take on the extra staff occurs due to the phenomenal demand Teagasc has experienced in recent months for agricultural courses to allow young people qualify for the new Young Farmer Scheme.

Under this scheme, farmers of up to 40 years of age may be eligible for significant financial supports subject to meeting the scheme requirements and depending on the amount of land farmed. Only those who apply for, and are accepted for, the Young Farmer Scheme in 2015 can be certain of payment for the full five years of the scheme.

Some 1,500 people have applied to Teagasc to complete its green cert. course, of which some 900 are applicants for the Teagasc distance education green cert. and a further 600 have applied for the part-time green cert. in the Teagasc regional education centres.

Teagasc had to receive special dispensation to provide the posts as it is still governed by the Semi State ban on recruitment.

The posts will be based in a variety of locations – Teagasc Agricultural Colleges, Private Agricultural Colleges and Teagasc Regional Education Centres. The starting salary is €31,729 and full details can be found here.
