A total prize fund of €40,000 is up for grabs for livestock producers at the upcoming annual Wicklow Co. Show, the Tinahely Show.

There is a €14,500 prize fund for winning between the four main Livestock and Equestrian Championships / Finals with a total prize fund of €40,000 across the whole of field competition, organisers say.

In the cattle section, a highlight of the show, which is in its eightieth year, will be the €6,000 FBD Belgian Blue Championships.

The Pedigree Belgian Blue Championships and the Belgian Blue Crossbred Finals will attract entries from across the country, organisers say.

Another highlight in this section is the Darcy Sands Commercial sponsored by Darcy Sands, the Sand People, Coolruss, Tinahely.

There is a prize fund of €2,500 for the best Beef Bullock or non-Pedigree Beef Heifer all age, any breed.

There is also the Derek Rothwell Memorial Young Stockperson of the Year Championship which is sponsored by the Tinahely Show Society and has a prize fund of €3,000.

The aim of the championship is to encourage involvement in shows and promote and the showing of animals by girls and boys – the ‘exhibitors of the future’.

There is also a prize fund of €3,000 for the Red Mills Non-Thoroughbred Colt/Gelding Two-Year-Old All Ireland Championship and there will be horse show jumping at the show.

Other events at the show include dog shows, sheaf tossing and the crowning of a Show Queen.

The show takes place on August 3, Bank Holiday Monday 2015 at Fariwood Park.

Gates open on show day from 8am to 6pm with free parking and full food and bar facilities on site. Tickets are priced from €10 to €15 and children under 12 go free.
