The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, has today (Wednesday, October 31) announced the appointment of Eilis O’Connell to the Teagasc Authority.

O’Connell is the assistant secretary in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, with responsibility for human resources and corporate affairs.

She replaces Brendan Gleeson as the departmental representative on the Teagasc Authority, following his recent appointment as secretary general of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

There are 11 members of the Teagasc Authority. All members are appointed by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The Authority has representatives from farming organisations, the food industry, the universities, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Teagasc staff.

O’Connell has served as a civil servant for over 27 years.

A statement issued by Teagasc has said she brings great experience to her current role, including previous senior management roles in human resources, corporate services, public procurement and change management in both the Department of Defence and the Office of Public Works.

Chairman of Teagasc, Liam Herlihy, has welcomed O’Connell to the authority. “I look forward to working with Eilis over the coming years.

“She brings a depth of experience and knowledge which will be important to the Authority in its deliberations and decision making in the future.”

The Teagasc chairman also thanked Brendan Gleeson for his contribution to Teagasc while he was a member of the Authority, and wished him well in his new role as secretary general of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
