Mullingar Agricultural Show cancels proceedings for 2021

The question on the minds of a lot of members of the agricultural show community has been ‘will agricultural shows get to go ahead this summer?’.

The uncertainty still remains in a lot of cases, but we have seen the first agricultural show to pull the plug on this year’s preparations.

The committee of the Mullingar Agricultural Show, based in Co. Westmeath, confirmed that the event will not be held this summer.

This is the second year in a row that the show has been cancelled based on concerns around the safety of exhibitors and the general public due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a post published on the Mullingar Agricultural Show’s social media page, it stated:

“The Mullingar Agricultural Show Committee has taken the hard decision to cancel the show for 2021.

“When we cancelled the show last year we had hoped things would be back to normal by now and that organising would be in full swing. We hope to be back bigger and better in 2022.”

Beef to the heel

The midlands-based show is renowned for its hotly contested ‘Beef to the Heel’ All-Ireland competition in the commercial cattle section.

However, it looks like exhibitors are going to have to wait until 2022 before they see quality commercial animals return to the showgrounds in Mullingar.
