A motorcyclist in his 50’s sustained fatal injuries when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a tractor earlier this evening.

The collision occurred on the N5 between Strokestown and Scramgoe Cross at approximately 8pm and Gardai in Boyle, Co. Roscommon are investigating the incident.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Roscommon Hospital. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Back in mid-August, Gardai in Navan, Co. Meath investigated a fatal road traffic collision when a motorcyclist was killed after his bike collided with a cow.

The male motorcyclist, who was 28 years old, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision occurred on the Navan to Athboy road N51 (approximately two miles outside Navan). The cow was also killed in the collision.
