Met Éireann has said that temperatures could reach highs of up to 29°C in parts of the country this week.

The weather forecast shows warm or hot and humid conditions this week with sunny spells. Some showers or rain is likely in parts too.

Any early mist and fog patches will clear today (Monday, August 10), to leave a dry day with a mixture of cloud and sunny spells.

Highest temperatures of 17° to 23°, feeling warmest further south away from coasts, in a light southerly or variable breeze.

Tonight will be dry in most places with clear spells, some light rain or drizzle may develop on south-west coasts towards dawn. Overnight lows of 9° to 14° in light variable winds.

Weather

Tuesday will be warm and dry with good sunny spells. It will be cloudier on the west coast where there may be patchy rain or drizzle.

Top daytime temperatures of 20° to 26° or 27°, warmest in the east and midlands. South to southeasterly winds will be light to moderate.

Mild and humid on Tuesday night as temperatures linger between 15° to 18° in mostly moderate southerly breezes. Some scattered showers will extend from the south.

Wednesday will see sunny spells in the east and south-east with a few showers.

Conditions will be cloudier in the west and north-west with some outbreaks of rain likely.

Highest temperatures of 20° to 28°, hottest in north Leinster, with light to moderate southerly breezes.

Another warm or hot day is forecast for Thursday with sunny spells and some further showers, especially in the west and northwest, turning heavy at times.

Temperatures will reach highs of 20° to 28° or 29°, feeling hottest again in Leinster, with light to moderate south to southwesterly breezes.

The current outlook shows the rest of the week will be mostly settled with temperatures dropping back closer to average levels.

Met Éireann

Met Éireann said that high pressure will dominate our weather this week, bringing generally dry conditions with just occasional rain, most of which will be in the north-west.

Rainfall amounts are expected to generally forecast to be below or at average, ranging from between 14% to 112% of average (1 to 29mm).

For the next seven days, mean air temperatures are forecast to be warmer than average by 1° to 3°.

Mean soil temperatures were above average during the past week by 1° and 3°, ranging from 15.5° to 19.3°.

Soils are currently driest in the southeast with soil moisture deficits ranging from 2 to 91mm leading to near drought or drought conditions.

As rainfall amounts this week are forecast to be below average, little change is expected to soil moisture deficits. Poorly drained soils in the north-west will likely decrease (-8 to -10mm) and become waterlogged.
