Raphoe Mart, Co. Donegal held its weekly cattle sale on Thursday (July 23), where weanlings saw some impressive prices with the best cattle breaking €6.00/kg.

A Charolais-cross weanling bull weighing 340kg was the pick of the bunch selling for €2,050 at €6.03/kg.

Another Charolais-cross weanling bull weighing 465kg sold for €2,530 at €5.44/kg.

A Charolais weanling heifer weighing 350kg sold for €1,840, equivalent to €5.26/kg.

Calves saw an impressive trade with the best animals breaking €1,000/head. Two Charolais-cross heifer calves sold for €1,010/head.

Castlerea

Castlerea Co-Operative Livestock Mart in Roscommon held its weekly cattle sale on Thursday (July 23), where 240 lots went through the ring.

Notable sales from the trade include the €3,540 paid for a five-year-old Charolais cow and her six-week-old bull calf at foot.

As seen in Raphoe, weanlings continue to make a good trade in Castlerea. A Limousin weanling bull weighing 270kgs sold for €1,750 at €6.48/kg.

A stand-out sale was the Charolais weanling bull weighing 380kgs who sold for €2,560 at €6.74/kg.

Bullocks in Castlerea saw some strong prices. A Charolais bullock weighing 430kgs sold for €2,110 and made €4.91/kg.

Another Charolais bullock weighing 500kgs sold for €2,400 making €4.80/kg.

The heifer ring also saw some a good trade. A Charolais heifer weighing 395kgs sold for €1,870, equivalent to €4.73/kg.

A heavy Limousin heifer weighing 715kgs sold for €3,030 sold for €4.23/kg.

Blessington

Blessington Mart in Co. Wicklow held its weekly cattle sale on Thursday, July 23. The trade was described as lively but small by a report published after the sale.

Continental store bullocks went from €1,060 to €1,680/head while Hereford and Angus store bullocks traded from €960 to €1,510/head.

Continental store heifers sold from €970 to €1,600/head while Hereford and Angus store heifers sold for between €900 to €1,380/head.
