Tullow Livestock Sales in Co. Carlow hosted its weekly general cattle sale on Friday (October 23) and its weanling sale on Saturday (October 24).
Commenting on the Friday cattle sale, mart manager Eric Driver said that there were large numbers of store cattle on offer with beef-type cattle "not as prominent" in the yard.
Driver said that the store heifers ranging in weight from 390-460kg ranged in price from €1,520-€1,860/head or €3.89-€4.04/kg.
The beef heifers in the sale ranged in weight from 470-790kg and sold from €2,060-€3,140/head or €3.65-€4.10/kg.
There was a full clearance of the cattle on offer in the Friday sale with trade driven by feeder/finisher customers, according to the mart manager.
Store bullocks from 390-460kg sold from €1,600-€1,880/head or €4.08-€4.10/kg.
Beef bullocks weighing from 540-720kg sold for €2,300-€2,900/head or €3.70-€4.20/kg.
The mart manager said that while the lighter-type cattle were a slightly easier trade than in some weeks previous some of the most notable prices from the sale were paid in the calf shed with four-week old Belgian Blue-sired calves making up to €800/head.
Beef bulls in the sale made from €2,680-€3,580 or €4.20-€4.50/kg.
Cull cows weighing from 480-740kg made from €1,250-€2,270 or €2.60-€2.74kg and calves made from €340-€800/head.
The mart hosted a weanling sale on Saturday (October 24), in which the "farmers set a steady pace" in what was "the largest sale of the season", according to Driver.
