Tullow Livestock Sales held its weekly cattle sale on Friday (July 17), where 290 cattle went on offer as a strong trade was reported again this week.

Tullow Mart reported a "very noticeable demand for beef", a trend highlighted to Agriland by several marts across the country.

Store heifers saw prices average from between €3.24-€4.64/kg, with beef heifers going from €3.39-€4.23/kg.

One Limousin cross heifer weighing 775kgs sold for €3,280 at €4.23/kg.

Another pen of three Limousin cross heifers weighing on average 710kg sold for €2,800 at €3.94/kg.

Store bullocks saw prices average from between €3.26-€4.24/kg, with beef bullocks going from €3.35-€4.25/kg.

Commenting on the beef sale, Tullow Mart manager Eric Driver added: "Current factory prices have been left wanting within ringside prices."

There was also a smaller number of bulls on sale on the day, with these going from between €3.60-€4.20/kg.

Below are some sample prices for bulls on the day:

An Angus cross bull weighing 650kgs sold for €2,520 at €3.88/kg;
A Shorthorn cross bull weighing 655kg sold for €2,590 at €3.95/kg.

Tullow Mart also saw cull cows continue to see a decent trade.

Prices went from €0.90/kg for poor culls to an impressive €3.65 for better heavier continental cattle.

One young Friesian cross cow weighing 600kgs sold for €1,680 at €2.80/kg.

A 735kg Limousin cross heifer cow sold for €2,600 at €3.54/kg. A Simmental heifer cow weighing 745kg sold for €2,530 or €3.40/kg.

The young stock trade in Tullow Mart also saw the positive trade continuing. Calves sold from anywhere between €230-€390/head for better continental calves.

Runners also saw a strong trade, with cattle fetching between €450-€960/head.

Weanlings continue to see a powerful trade around the country and Tullow is no exception, as weanling bulls sold for between €4.20-€5.30/kg.
