The Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) will hold an online “discussion” and questions and answers session on nitrates this Thursday (December 3).

The farmer meeting will begin at 11:00am that morning.

Speakers who will feature at the online event will include:

  • Jenny Deakin, manager of the Catchment Science and Management Unit at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA);
  • Eddie Burgess, programme manager for the Agricultural Catchments Programme;
  • Bernard Harris, of the Nitrates Division at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

According to the IFA, the event is a “prime opportunity” for farmers to “get their questions on nitrates answered”.

Availability for the event is on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. The meeting can be registered for through the IFA website.

ICMSA AGM

The IFA is not the only farm organisation holding an event this Thursday.

Also that day, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue, as well as the chief executives of both Ornua and Bord Bia, will address the AGM of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA).

The AGM will take place via an online conference platform, with the ‘housekeeping’ and the association’s accounts for the year taking up the first part of the meeting, between 10:30am and 11:45am.

Following an address by ICMSA president Pat McCormack, the minister will speak. Then, after 1:00pm, John Jordan, chief executive of Ornua, will speak, followed by Tara McCarthy, Chief Executive of Bord Bia.
