The warm and dry weather that much of Ireland has experienced over the past 10 days is set to break, according to Met Eireann.

Later today heavy showers will develop in the north-midlands and northwest before dying out early tonight.

However, despite the risk of rain, temperatures will reach 20 to 25 degrees, although it will be a bit cooler across the southwest of Munster.

Monday

According to Met Eireann, Monday will start off as a warm and humid day with a mix of cloud and hazy sunshine.

However, it forecasts intense thundery showers to develop before merging into longer spells of rain across the midlands, west and northwest.

This rain may lead to spot flooding, as well as poor visibility and treacherous driving conditions, with the showers not expected to cease until after dark.

However Munster will see few showers, if any, with temperatures reaching 20 to 24 degrees in light mainly southeast winds.

On Monday night, showers will continue for a time, possibly merging into longer spells of rain, Met Eireann says.

Tuesday

Met Eireann forecasts that Tuesday will start mostly dry and bright, but showers will develop again during the day, although many parts will stay mainly dry.

It will remain warm and humid as well with temperatures of 20 or 21 degrees at highest, in little or no wind.

Wednesday

Wednesday is looking dry apart from just isolated showers, Met Eireann says and there will be spells of sunshine.

Temperatures are likely to reach their highest values of the current warm spell, with many places seeing values between 22 and 25 degrees in the afternoon.

Outlook

It also says there are indications that rain belts will begin to move eastwards across the country from the Atlantic towards the end of the week.

Nevertheless, there is still scope for a lot of dry and warm weather on Thursday.
