Members of An Garda Síochána have located the red Toyota Corolla van which was sought following the discovery of the bodies of two elderly men on a farm in Co. Cork in the early hours of this morning (Friday, February 26).

A short Garda statement confirmed: “Gardaí have located the red Toyota Corolla van.

“No further comment or Garda spokesperson is available at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”

It is understood that the van was found abandoned outside a church in the Mitchelstown area, with Gardaí continuing to search for the driver.

Earlier this morning, in a short statement, a Garda spokesperson said:

“Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident at a domestic premises outside of Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, following the discovery of the bodies of two elderly men.

“Gardaí are continuing to trace the whereabouts of a red Toyota Corolla van, registration 03-WW-1556.

Any members of the public with information are asked to call 999 immediately. Do not approach this vehicle.

The Irish Times reports that the two dead men are brothers – with Gardaí searching for a third brother who is believed to be the registered owner of the farm.

The Armed Support Unit was apparently called in due to Garda fears that one or more men had a gun, the report notes.
