The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is continuing its ‘Breakfast Bites’ series of webinars, with its next webinar in March on ‘Food labelling for food businesses – what you need to know’.

It will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 10:00am until 10:40am when senior technical executive regulatory affairs with FSAI, Clodagh Crehan, will outline all of the information that by law, must be declared on labels, regardless of the size of a food business.

Other areas covered on the day will include an overview of the EU and Irish rules on food labelling, explaining when a food is considered prepacked, when it is non-prepacked and the relevant information that must be provided for both.

Importance of food labelling

Encouraging people to sign up for the webinar, Dr. Pamela Byrne, chief executive of FSAI, said: “Food labelling is an important tool that provides consumers with the necessary information they require when choosing food products they want to eat to fit their dietary requirements.

It also provides vital information such as food allergens and use-by dates to alert consumers about the date a food may be used safely.

“It is essential for all food businesses to understand their legal obligations when it comes to the information that must be provided for consumers, and this short webinar will educate and assist them in fulfilling these legal requirements,” Dr. Byrne said.

Following the presentation attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and those wishing to attend the webinar must register before the event on the FSAI website.
