Farmers are being reminded to ensure they record their slurry movements and declare them before the end of the year.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has said that certain farmers and their agents must declare organic nutrient movements, including slurry movements, online.

The requirement to declare an internal movement only applies for the purposes of the following two nitrates measures:

A farmer applying to avail of a nitrates derogation with land parcels greater than 30km from the derogation farm 'hub' (primary farmyard), seeking to obtain the higher nitrates derogation stocking rate allowance on that land;
A dairy farmer with a milking platform stocking rate of greater than 259kg organic nitrogen (N) per hectare, meaning that slurry or farmyard manure must move to outblocks outside the milking platform or off the holding, or alternatively meaning that a lower chemical fertiliser allowance will apply on the milking platform.

In some cases, the same internal movement will meet the requirements of both measures.

These declaration must be made online using the new internal movement feature when declaring organic nutrient movements on the MyAgFood system or on the Organic Nutrient Movement App.

For an internal movement there is a need to enter the following information:

Date of movement;
Volume and type of material moved (for example, slurry);
Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS) parcel or parcels that the organic manure was moved to.

The LPIS parcels and their associated townland or townlands declared on the farmer’s 2026 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) will be available to select when declaring the movement.

The deadline for declaring an internal organic nutrient movement made in 2026 is December 31.

That will be followed by a significant change from January 1, 2027.

From that date, organic nutrient movements must be declared to the department online at MyAgFood, or on the organic movement app, within four days of the movement taking place.
