The European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC) is currently conducting a study on the impact of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic on the EU agri-food sector from farm to fork.

The aim of the survey is to better understand the resilience, constraints and response of operators in the agri-food chain.

Measures introduced to slow down the spread of the pandemic – such as quarantine, increased border controls and the shutdown of the economy – are already having a profound effect on supply chain operators.

These effects are expected to continue in the coming months.

Who is the commission study aimed at?

The survey targets companies and businesses (including small enterprises and farmers) active in the production, distribution, processing, wholesale or retail stages of the agri-food supply chain.

Questions cover both the lockdown and easing of lockdown measures; exploring operators’ experiences; thoughts on future prospects; and the measures they need to support their activities.

Responses to the study can help provide relevant evidence to EU policymaking.

The survey is available in all 24 EU official languages and will remain open until November 30, 2020.

What does the EU’s JRC do?

As the European Commission’s science and knowledge service, the JRC supports EU policies with independent scientific evidence throughout the whole policy cycle.

It creates, manages and makes sense of knowledge and develops innovative tools to make available to policymakers.

The JRC also anticipates emerging issues that need to be addressed at EU level and understands policy environments.
