Well-fleshed butcher lambs topped out at €132/head or €2.42/kg at Ennis Mart today (Monday, November 9).
A big entry of 450 sheep was reported by the mart, with lambs averaging €2.33/kg. A spokesperson for the mart noted a strong demand from both butchers and factory agents.
A 99% clearance rate was reported in the lamb section. The top price on the day, as mentioned above, was €132/head for a pen of seven lambs weighing 59kg.
Other notable prices were €131/head for a pen of nine lambs weighing 54kg and, again, another pen of nine lambs making €127/head.
Sample butcher and factory lamb prices:
- 10 lambs weighing 49kg sold for €124/head or €2.51/kg;
- Nine lambs weighing 50kg sold for €127/head or €2.54/kg;
- Nine lambs weighing 54kg sold for €130/head or €2.41/kg;
- 12 lambs weighing 54kg sold for €131/head or €2.42/kg;
- Six lambs weighing 42.5kg sold for €106/head or €2.49/kg;
- Seven lambs weighing 42kg sold for €108/head or €2.57/kg.
Store lambs were also a flying trade with 37-41.5kg lambs selling from €93/head up to €110/head.
The mart reported a 100% clearance rate of cull ewes as well, with prices for these lots ranging from €66/head for feeding ewes up to €124/head for heavy, well-fleshed ewes.
