A school teacher recently embarked, in his Valmet 604 tractor, on a “trip” from Denmark to Norway and back again. The trip, rather notably, included a visit to Valtra’s factory in Suolahti (Finland).

Kurt Fredriksen embarked on the road-trip in late June. The total length of the trip was 5,200km; he spent 40 days on the road.

He travelled in his Valmet 604, towing a “traditional” caravan that served as his mobile living quarters. The highest speed achievable by the tractor is a modest 30kph. However, to save fuel (and his ears) he drove at just 25kph.

On his travels, Frederiksen stopped at Valtra’s Suolahti factory in late July. By that stage he had notched up 180 hours.

His Valmet 604 is in remarkably original condition and, despite its age, has just 3,700 hours on the clock. Frederiksen completed the novel journey earlier this month.

He explained: “I started the trip simply because it is possible and because it is fun. I think it’s great to have a lot of fun experiences along the way and meet new people.”

Next on the list for Frederiksen is a tractor-themed trip to Iceland with his Valmet. He is currently writing a book about his trip – with Valtra’s help.

Valtra updates

In more mainstream Valtra news, AgriLand recently revealed that the Finnish firm has expanded its fourth-generation N and T Series ranges upwards, with the introduction of new models and the SmartTouch armrest on all Versu and Direct models. 60kph transmissions are also available.

The N174 model now features a two-step boost to 201hp – from a 4-cylinder machine. According to Valtra, the extra boost is a “big benefit for PTO work and road driving”.

The company has added a Direct (CVT) version of its T234 model; this takes its most powerful CVT offering to a double-boosted 250hp. A new T254 model is also available in HiTech, Active and Versu power-shift versions; it has up to 271hp.
