Cork, Galway, Meath lead new tractor registrations in August
1,920 new tractors have been registered up to the end of August this year, new data from the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA) shows.
The latest FTMTA Statistics Service Report shows that this represents a 6% increase on the same 8 month period in 2025.
The report details the current level of vehicle registration activity in the farm machinery sector in Ireland.
150 new tractors were registered in August 2026, which was 15% higher compared with the same month in 2025.
Cork, Galway, and Meath delivered the highest number of new tractor registrations for August.
Tractors
The 121hp to 140hp category and the 161hp to 200hp category shared the lead in terms of power bands for August 2026, each accounting for 23% of all new tractor registrations.
The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for August 2026 was 141hp, and the largest tractors registered were each rated at 335hp.

The FTMTA data shows that 219 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in August 2026, up 40 units on a year previous.

Loaders
The Irish market for new telescopic loaders reported a 9% decrease in August 2026 at 51 units compared with August 2025.
JCB and Manitou accounted for 72% of the total year-to-date market, with Weidemann ahead of Kramer in third place.
37 imported used telescopic loaders were registered in August 2026, down from 40 units in August 2025.
There was a 33% drop in the Irish wheeled loader market in August 2026 at 9 units compared with the same month last year.
Chinese manufactured machines at the lower price end of the market accounted for half of the new wheeled loader registrations.
5 imported used wheeled loaders were registered in August, down from 7 in August 2025.
The Irish backhoe loader market saw a 75% jump in August 2026 with 7 new machines registered, with the year to date data showing a 50% increase.
There were 3 used backhoe loaders registered in Ireland in August 2026.
13 new utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) were registered in August 2026, compared with 22 in August 2025.
While one used imported UTV registered for the first time in August 2026, compared with three in August 2025.
The FTMTA Statistics Service Reports are compiled from monthly raw data from the Irish Revenue Commissioners who are responsible for first-time registrations of all new and used vehicles in Ireland.
