The weather will remain changeable and often unsettled over the weekend and into next week, according to Met Éireann.

There will be scattered showers today (Friday, September 4), most frequent and heaviest in the north and west, with parts of the south and southeast staying dry. Cloud will break up later this morning and sunny spells will develop.

It will be cooler and fresher than recent days, with highest temperatures of 15° to 18° degrees, in a moderate to fresh and gusty westerly breeze.

Tonight will see clear spells and scattered showers at first, becoming isolated overnight. Patches of mist will form as southwest to west winds become light. Lowest temperatures will be 8° to 13°.

Tomorrow morning (Saturday, September 5) will start mostly dry with sunny spells, isolated showers and patches of mist. Cloud will increase through the morning and rain or drizzle will develop in the southwest.

This will extend northeastwards to most areas through the day. There will be mist and hill fog too.

Highest temperatures tomorrow will be 15° to 19° with light to moderate south to southwest winds turning south to southeast.

It will be cloudy and damp early tomorrow night with scattered rain or drizzle, mist and hill fog. It will become drier overnight as the rain becomes isolated.

It will be a mild and humid night with lowest temperatures of 13° to 16°, in a moderate to fresh southerly breeze.

Sunday (September 6) will see breezy weather with fresh and gusty southerly winds. It will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain moving eastwards across the country. Highest temperatures will be 18° to 22°.

Rain will clear from the east early on Sunday night, giving way to mostly dry conditions with clear spells and isolated showers. Winds will ease, becoming light to moderate westerly. Lowest temperatures will be 10° to 14°.

Monday morning (September 7) will be dry with sunny spells but it will become cloudy, wet and breezy for the afternoon as a spell of rain moves in from the west.

Top temperatures should be 15° to 18° with moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds.

The rain will clear eastwards early on Monday night; however, there is a possibility that another spell of rain will move in to southern areas overnight, while patches of mist and fog form further north.

Lowest temperatures will range between 8° in the north and 14° in the south, with light to moderate west to southwest winds becoming light and variable.

Met Éireann said there is uncertainty in the forecast beyond that, but there is potential for a spell of wet and breezy weather during Tuesday (September 8) and Tuesday night. Highest temperatures on Tuesday should be 13° to 19°, warmest in the south.
