Dairy processor Carbery Group has confirmed its milk price for supplies in June.

The processor said that it has maintained the price from the previous month.

Carbery said that if that decision is replicated across the four west Cork co-ops of Bandon, Barryroe, Drinagh and Lisavaird, this will result in an average milk price of 40.8cpl, inclusive of VAT, the 0.5c/L somatic cell count (SCC) bonus and the FutureProof sustainability bonus.

The maximum FutureProof bonus available for 2026 is 1.25c/L (the SCC and FutureProof bonuses are quoted excluding VAT).

This average milk price is the same as the price announced last month for May milk.

Carbery said that the actual price paid for June milk, based on actual milk solids, is expected to be 44.76c/L, compared to 42.57c/L for May.

A spokesperson for the processor said: "Global dairy markets continue to face challenging trading conditions, with ongoing pressure across key commodity markets.

"In this environment, maintaining our milk price reflects Carbery's continued commitment to supporting our farmer shareholders while balancing current market realities," the spokesperson added.

According to Carbery, the contribution from its Stability Fund will remain at 2c/L for the month, "helping to provide additional support to suppliers during the peak milk production season".

Like the SCC and Futureproof bonuses, the Stability Fund contribution is quoted excluding VAT.

Meanwhile, Carbery has announced the appointment of John O’Brien as chairperson of the company.

O'Brien is currently the chair of Barryroe Co-op - one of the west Co. Cork co-ops that make up Carbery Group - and is also currently the vice-chair of Carbery.

He succeeds Vincent O’Donovan, who has completed a two-year term.

O'Brien is a full-time dairy farmer from Barryroe, and was first elected to the board of Barryroe Co-op in 1988.

He has served the co-op in several board and leadership roles, including as its chair from 2007 to 2014, as well as his current term as Barryroe chair.

He has also served on the Carbery Group board on several occasions, including a previous term as chair, and was a member of the board of Ornua from 2010 to 2014.
