Macra na Feirme recently launched Know Your Neighbour Weekend aiming to encourage engagement with neighbours
“Recent times of crisis have demonstrated the strength of support and friendship that neighbours can provide. Those living closest to you may be the first people you seek out when times are hard. The ongoing fodder crisis has put all farmers under pressure and created a sense of helplessness and hopelessness. I have heard many heart-warming stories from communities where neighbours have pulled together to share fodder and therefore share the burden” said Macra na Feirme National President, Kieran O’Dowd.
Macra’s Know Your Neighbour Weekend aims to highlight the support that a strong community network can provide. The initiative, now in its 8th year, aims to bring neighbours together to socialise and have fun and will take place on the 13th and 14th July 2013.
Macra is calling on people and community groups to hold a Know Your Neighbour event such as a coffee morning, a BBQ, a themed party, a sports day or a field day. It is an opportunity for neighbours to get together in a fun and informal environment. Taking the time to build these relationships will ensure you have the support network you may rely on now or in the future.

Macra na Feirme is a rural youth organisation with 8,000 members between 17-35 years old.
