Met Éireann has said that the weather conditions this week will be generally mixed, with showers expected to become widespread from mid-week.
However, current indications from the national forecaster suggest that the showers will not stay around too long.
Today (Monday, August 17) will be quite mild and humid. It will be cloudy at first, with patchy rain and drizzle mainly in the west and north.
It will be drier elsewhere with sunny spells gradually spreading from the south.
The rain will turn more persistent and occasionally heavy in the north-west through the afternoon, gradually spreading south-eastwards this evening.
Highest temperatures today will be 17° to 21° in Ulster and Connacht. It will be warmer elsewhere with highest temperatures of 21° to 25° in light to moderate westerly breezes.
Tonight will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain in the north-west moving south-eastwards early on, becoming lighter and patchier as they do. Scattered showers will follow from the west.
It will be mild tonight, with lowest temperatures of 13° to 17° in light to moderate westerly breezes.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, August 18) will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers, mainly affecting the west and north. It will gradually become brighter in the afternoon with sunny spells developing.
Tomorrow will be cooler than recent days with highest temperatures of 16° to 20° in light to moderate westerly breezes, fresh at times along Atlantic coasts.
Tomorrow night will be dry, with clear spells for most. Scattered showers will mainly affect the west and north, becoming heavy at times in the north-west towards morning.

On Wednesday (August 19), showers will become widespread across the country, turning heavy and merging to longer spells of rain at times.
It will be breezy, with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times near Atlantic coasts, with highest temperatures of 16° to 21°.
Showers will ease on Wednesday night, becoming mostly confined to the north and west with clear spells developing elsewhere.
Lowest temperatures will be 10° to 14° with winds easing light to moderate and becoming north-westerly.
Thursday (August 20) will be another day of showers becoming widespread and again turning heavy and prolonged in places. Highest temperatures will be 15° to 20° with moderate, occasionally fresh, northerly winds.
Friday (August 21) will see sunny spells and showers - not as widespread as previous days - with more in the way of drier weather likely.
Highest temperatures on Friday will be 14° to 19° with moderate northerly breezes.
Beyond Friday, Met Éireann is currently predicting a more settled picture for next weekend, with sunny spells and just isolated showers.
Temperatures will likely range from the mid-to-high teens.
