The weather this weekend will bring continued spells of rain in most parts of the country, as well as cold nights, with some frost and ice patches possible.

Today (Friday, February 23) will be cold with sunny spells and showers of rain or hail, heaviest and most frequent over the western half of the country. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the west and north, and sleet is possible on high ground.

Highest temperatures will be 5° to 8° with moderate, gusty west to southwest winds.

Tonight, showers will continue, over Munster, Connacht and west Ulster, some turning wintry on high ground. It will remain mainly dry elsewhere, and showers will mostly die out overnight.

Frost and icy stretches will develop tonight, mainly in Ulster, Connacht and Leinster. Lowest temperatures of -2° to +3°, with light to moderate northwest breezes.

Tomorrow morning (Saturday, February 24), frost and icy patches will gradually clear. It will be a largely dry day with sunny spells although cloud will increase over Munster and Connacht in the afternoon and rain will develop in the southwest in the evening.

Highest temperatures tomorrow will be 7° to 10° with light to moderate northwest breezes.

Tomorrow night will start off dry over most of Ireland. Rain will develop in the southwest and will spread northwards over Munster, Connacht and Leinster overnight.

Most of Ulster will stay dry, however. Lowest temperatures will be 0° to 5°, coldest in Ulster with light to moderate east to southeast winds.

On Sunday (February 25), the rain over Leinster, Connacht and Munster will gradually move southwards and will clear in the evening. Drier, brighter weather over Ulster will follow. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in a light to moderate north to northeast winds.

Sunday night will be cold and mainly dry with clear spells. Frost and some icy patches are possible. Lowest temperatures are expected to be -1° to +3° with a light to moderate northerly breezes.

Monday (February 26) will be dry with bright or sunny spells. Highest temperatures should be 6° to 9° with light to moderate northerly breezes. Monday night will be cold with clear spells at first and cloud increasing from the northwest overnight.
