A 715kg Hereford-cross bullock sold for an impressive €3,700 at Delvin Mart last Thursday, February 15. The bullock was bought by Kepak and all proceeds from the sale will be donated to charity.

The two-year-old, factory-fit Hereford bullock named ‘Logan’ was initially acquired by Elisa and Tara Drumm of Crowenstown Herefords as a calf from local farmer Ned Daly.

The bullock was reared from a calf to a beef animal by the Drumm family, and was the highlight of a fundraising initiative organised collaboratively by Irish Hereford Prime, Irish Hereford Breed Society, and Next Gen Herefords.

The funds raised from the bullock’s sale price “will directly benefit North Westmeath Hospice, ensuring it can continue the vital services it provides to patients and families in the region”, according to a statement from Kepak.

Kepak Clonee procurement manager, David Coyne said: “North Westmeath Hospice carries out important work for people in the area during times of difficulty for patients and families.

“As a local employer, Kepak is proud to support such a good cause through this donation.”

Mary Cully from North Westmeath Hospice added: “We want to thank everyone involved in the charity sale and Kepak for it’s generous purchase of ‘Logan’ the bullock.

“The proceeds from this fundraiser will go a long way to help provide further care for our patients.

“This collaborative effort highlights the power of community engagement and the agricultural sector’s commitment to making a positive impact.”

“North Westmeath Hospice extends their appreciation to all participants, recognising that the success of the Charity Hereford Sale will have a lasting and meaningful impact on their ability to serve those in need,” she added.

The North Westmeath Hospice is a voluntary organisation which was set up in 1994 to help provide specialist palliative care services for the people of Westmeath.
