There’s a changeable week weather-wise in store this week with rain, sunny spells and frost all promised from Met Eireann.

Today, Tuesday, is forecast to be a fresh and breezy day.

After sunny spells in the morning, heavy showers are to move in from the Atlantic during the day, becoming widespread.

Some of these showers are promised to be thundery and of hail, with a possibility of sleet or snow on higher ground in the west.

Highest temperatures today are to range between 7 and 9 degrees, in a moderate to fresh southwesterly wind.

Looking to tonight and Met Eireann has forecast clear spells but also a few heavy, possibly thundery showers also, mainly affecting western coastal counties.

A sharp frost is to develop tonight as westerly winds fall off light, along with some mist and fog patches. It will be a cold night with lowest temperatures of minus 2 and plus 1 degrees.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, is promised to begin largely dry and bright with frost and any fog clearing.

Good sunny spells will occur throughout the day, but Met Eireann has promised that scattered heavy showers developing later too, some of which may turn thundery.

While temperatures will still be a little below normal, it should be pleasant in around sunshine with just light westerly breezes.

Highest temperatures on Wednesday will range between 8 to 10 degrees.

Tomorrow night, thundery showers are forecast to become isolated with long clear spells overnight.

Met Eireann has promised that it will be very cold, with a sharp to severe frost, in near calm conditions.

Some mist or fog patches will develop tomorrow night and these will be dense in parts as lowest temperatures range between 0 to minus 3 degrees.

Drying conditions will fluctuate this week with some good drying in the mornings in the East, before the showers get going, but otherwise Met Eireann has said that they will be moderate to poor for much of the time.

Looking to Thursday and the day is promised to start off cold, bright and crisp with frost. Going by the current indications it looks set to be the best day for spraying.

Any fog will soon clear and it’s forecast to hold dry across most areas for the day with good sunshine through the morning hours.

However, Met Eireann has promised cloud to build in the afternoon producing a few well-scattered light passing showers.

Highest temperatures on Thursday will range between 9 and 11 degrees, in just light southwest breezes.

Current indications suggest that Friday will be very wet and windy from early on in the day, with heavy persistent falls of rain across Atlantic counties, leading to spot flooding.

The rain is promised to turn heavier in other parts later in the day too, possibly persisting into the night-time hours.
