A tractor run scheduled to take place this weekend just outside Athlone is aiming to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

The event is being organised in the memory of Lisa Dolan, a local girl who passed away after a battle with Cystic Fibrosis at the tender age of 21 in May 2017.

Those interested in partaking in the run are asked to meet at Connaughton’s Pub, Clonark, Athlone, Co. Roscommon on Sunday morning (February 18).

Registration will take place from 11:30am up until 12:15pm, with the organisers hoping that the run will begin at 12:30pm. Participants will be required to pay a registration fee of €20.

All proceeds raised from the event will go towards Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. This is just one of a number of fundraising events being organised by Lisa’s close family and friends in the coming weeks.

Tractors of all makes and models, both new and old, are welcome to take part. Refreshments will be available once the run is concluded and a night of entertainment will follow.

Details on the route the run will take are available on the event’s Facebook page. The tractor run is being held in conjunction with the Malin2Mizen Cycle4CF.

The four-day cycle returns in 2018, with participants embarking on the 602km trek on May 10 and arriving on May 13.

This year’s cycle will be in the memory of Lisa, who helped to launch the event in Athlone in November 2016 – the same year as she received a double lung transplant. The mammoth cycle aims to raise funds to support people living with Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland.
