A tractor driver was hospitalised and another person was arrested following a collision in Co. Louth yesterday (September 8).

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the two-vehicle incident, which occurred on the M1 motorway at Oldbridge - where the Boyne Valley Bridge is located - near Drogheda, Co. Louth.

The incident involving the tractor and lorry occurred shortly after 5:00a.m yesterday morning.

The driver of the tractor was brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital as a precaution, gardaí said in a statement.

A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene.

He has been charged and released to appear at Drogheda District Court.

The garda statement confirmed: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the M1 Oldbridge, Drogheda, Co Louth, on Tuesday.

"The collision, which involved a tractor and a lorry, occurred shortly after 5:00am," the statement added.

"The driver of the tractor was brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital as a precaution. A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged and released to appear before Drogheda District Court at a future date," it said.

The statement from gardaí did not outline what this man was charged with.

Tractor and bus collision

Also yesterday, a tractor and bus were involved in a collision in Co. Donegal.

No injuries were reported, gardaí said.

This incident took place at Raphoe Demesne shortly after 8:00a.m, a garda statement said.

Incident involving tractor and train

Separately, a man was taken to hospital after an incident last week in which a train struck a tractor in Co. Offaly.

The incident involved a train travelling from Westport to Dublin, and occurred before 4:00p.m last Thursday (September 3) at Meelaghans, Tullamore.

It is understood that the train struck the tractor at a level crossing.

Gardaí, emergency services and crews from Iarnród Éireann attended the scene.

The injured person was taken to hospital for injuries that were understood to be not life-threatening.

A spokesperson from Iarnród Éireann said that train services between Portarlington and Tullamore were suspended following the incident.
