A few thousand customers, including homes, farm and businesses are without electricity supply today (Friday, March 1), as snow forms a blanket across the country, according to the ESB.

There are a number of outages in Co. Longford, west Cavan and south Leitrim.

In Cavan, there are 628 outages in the area of Ballyconnell and 119 in Killeshandra.

There are 628 customers affected in Carrigallen, which borders counties Cavan and Leitrim.

In Co. Longford, 298 are facing outages in Ballymahon and over 100 in Longford town.

Other areas affected include 1,234 in Bray, Co. Wicklow; 206 outages in Bundoran, Co. Donegal; and 140 outages in Colligan in Co. Waterford.

ESB has apologised for the inconvenience of power outages.

“While treacherous travelling conditions are posing a challenge in accessing fault sites, we are working towards restoring power to all customers over the course of the day,” the ESB stated.

Snow

A Status Yellow weather warning for low temperatures and ice will come into place for the entire country from 9:00p.m today and remain valid until 9:00a.m on Saturday (March 2).

The national forecaster said that rain, sleet and snow in north Leinster and Ulster will extend southwards to the rest of the country today.

The wintry falls will be mainly confined to higher ground, some showers of hail and thunderstorms are also possible.

Drier conditions will develop from the northwest during the afternoon. It will be blustery in fresh to strong north to northeasterly winds. Feeling cold in highest temperatures of just 3° to 7°C.
