Gardaí have arrested a man following an incident at a home in rural Co. Monaghan which was the subject of a media blackout.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said that officers resolved an incident at the residence located outside Clontibret yesterday (Thursday, February 29).

Out of concern for the safety of the man, who is aged in his 30s, gardaí were requested to attend the premises.

An Garda Síochána initiated its operational command protocol. An On-Scene Commander was appointed and local garda negotiators attached to the National Negotiators Unit attended the scene with assistance from a number of other garda Units.

“Arising from the incident, an adult male has been arrested and detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1989.

“A scene is currently being held and investigations are ongoing. No further information is available,” the statement added.

Gardaí

Elsewhere, gardaí are investigating the theft of a jeep in Scartaglen, Co. Kerry sometime between Monday evening (February 26) and Tuesday morning (February 27).

The owner said the Land Cruiser jeep was taken from their yard along with a 14×8 Nugent Trailer.

They said the trailer is only a few weeks old and was full of bags of forestry trees. The registration plate for the jeep is: 231-KY-1571.

According to the owner, the jeep was spotted travelling through Newmarket and passed Mace shop at 3:58a.m, which can be seen on CCTV.

The owner said the jeep was followed by an older Land Cruiser jeep pulling a horse box.

The jeep was then spotted passing through Freemount, heading for Charleville at 4:20a.m.

The owner asked anyone with information to get in contact with Castleisland Garda Station, Co. Kerry.
