Tayto, Brennans and Avonmore among Irish shoppers' favourite brands

Tayto, Brennans and Avonmore are among the top 10 most popular brands for Irish shoppers, according to the Checkout Top 100 Brands for 2026 survey.

Tayto is the third most popular brand, with Brennans and Avonmore ranking seventh and eight respectively.

The survey is produced by Checkout, the industry magazine for the Irish grocery retail sector, in partnership with NIQ Ireland.

Senior business insights manager at NIQ Ireland, Ruth Lloyd-Evans said: "The 2026 Top 100 Brands ranking reinforces the resilience of Ireland's most established grocery brands.

“Many of the brands at the top of the ranking have earned a place in shoppers' baskets over decades, underlining the importance of trust, familiarity and consistent delivery.

“At the same time, the wider ranking shows that brands continue to find opportunities for growth through innovation, premium propositions and products that meet evolving shopper needs."

Irish brands

While Tayto, Brennans and Avonmore fly the flag for Irish-produced products in the top 10, many Irish brands appeared further down the rankings in the top 100.

Editor of Checkout, Maev Martin said: “Consumers remain willing to pay a premium when products deliver meaningful benefits, such as health, convenience, functionality, quality, or trusted brand credentials.

“And that is what we are seeing with many of the Irish brands that appear on our list this year, especially when it comes to innovation in health and wellbeing and convenience.”

At number 24, Brady Family is another domestic brand that is a mainstay of shopping baskets across Ireland.

The brand continues to drive growth through innovation, with its new ‘Made Without Nitrites and Artificial Preservatives’ range.

At number 31, Kerrygold has also invested in innovation recently, strengthening its position in butter while expanding into new categories and occasions.

This includes its recent expansion into the cheddar category with a premium 15-product cheese range.

Irish Pride is another Irish brand in the top 100, coming in at number 37 on the list.

The brand relaunched this year with "fibre-filled, emulsifier-free, preservative-free" breads, following research revealing that consumers had reduced their consumption of everyday bread.

International brands

Other brands making moves this year include Danone, which is at number 36 on the list and whose brands include Activia yoghurt and Aptamil baby formula.

In March, the food giant announced that it had agreed to acquire Huel, the British maker of powdered and ready-to-drink meals and high-protein snacks.

The deal is reportedly worth close to €1 billion, as the French food group expands further into health-focused nutrition.

In April, the Unite trade union secured an 8.8% pay rise for Danone's workers in Wexford.

Trends

Trends across the top 100 list show consumers moving away from traditional offerings and towards options more suitable to modern lifestyles.

In pre-packed sliced meat, growth is concentrated in snacking and convenience-led formats, while traditional sliced-meat lines are not selling as well.

The cheese category is also driven by strong demand for snacking, convenience, and premium products, with traditional block and sliced cheddar segments remaining more challenged.

Further down the rankings, the trend continues.

In yoghurt, yoghurt drinks and fromage frais, shoppers are increasingly favouring functional, high-protein and larger-format products.

Children’s yoghurts and premium brands are also performing well, while some traditional and less differentiated lines are declining.

GLP-1 medications are expected to influence eating and shopping behaviour among some consumers, and their availability in pill form may increase uptake of the medications.

However, the scale and timing of any impact on the Irish shopping basket remain uncertain at this stage.

This year’s rankings underline the continued strength of established brands, which continue to innovate to meet evolving consumer tastes and preferences.

The Checkout Top 100 Brands lists the Top 100 selling brands in Ireland (value sales) through mainstream grocery outlets and is produced in partnership with NIQ Ireland.
