Making small changes to the lambing season on the farm could prove to make a significant impact on the quality of lambs being born.
While it is not possible to keep every lamb alive, there are measures farmers can take to reduce mortality rates at lambing.
"The energy and protein requirements of ewes pre-lambing increases massively and if it isn't met then problems are going to arise."
"A ewe needs 66% more energy and 100% more protein in the last two weeks of pregnancy," according to Cian Condon of Teagasc.
