It has been confirmed that a tractor stolen from a farmyard in the west of Ireland recently has been recovered.

The Case IH tractor – with a 10-RN-1470 registration plate – is believed to have been stolen from the Mount Prospect area in the hours of darkness between 5:30pm on Saturday evening and 8:00am on Sunday morning.

It was recovered yesterday and was set to be reunited with its owner, according to Shannonside FM.

It had been suggested that the tractor – which was equipped with a front-end loader and was was described as having “very unique rear mudflaps” – was spotted heading in the Cloverhill direction on the night it was stolen, the local radio station added.

Having not suffered any significant damage, it is understood that the tractor was found in Derrane, Co. Roscommon – a relatively short distance from where it was originally taken from.

Stolen tractor and trailer

Meanwhile, a tractor and trailer that were stolen in Co. Laois on Friday, January 12, were spotted almost 100km away from the farmyard they were taken from.

A Massey Ferguson 6480 – registration number 12-LS-1137 – along with a big red Broughan grain trailer with a yellow roll-over cover were stolen from a farmyard near The Rock, Mountmellick, Co. Laois.

It is understood that the theft occurred between 7:45pm and 8:00pm on the night in question.

Utilising CCTV to track the tractor, the farmer posted an update on social media to say it had been seen in Mountrath, Co. Laois at 8:25pm that night – approximately 20km away from the farmyard.

Following this, the stolen tractor and trailer were spotted in Birdhill, Co. Tipperary, at around 11:00pm.

It is believed that the tractor may have been heading in the direction of Limerick.

Farmers and the general public have been asked to keep an eye out for the tractor and trailer. Anyone with any information is asked to contact their local Garda station.
