A career opportunity has come available for experienced stockperson at a cattle-lairage facility handling up to 2,000 head of cattle/week.

Irish-based beef processing and exporting company Liffey Meats confirmed to Agriland that what it described as "an exciting opportunity" has come available "for an experienced and committed cattle lairage operator" to join the business.

The role is avaliable at the Liffey Meats main site in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan.

According to the job advert on AgriRecruit, the successful candidate "will have a strong agricultural background, with relevant experience in livestock handling".

"A good understanding of farming, animal welfare and the day-to-day requirements of a busy meat processing environment is essential also," the job advert states.

The role of lairage operator will see the successful candidate responsible for the day-to-day management and care of livestock within the factory.

The candidate will be expected to ensure the highest standards are maintained in:

Animal welfare and livestock handling;
Livestock health and wellbeing;
Hygiene and cleanliness;
Health and safety;
Organisation and efficient movement of livestock;
Compliance with company procedures and relevant regulations.

According to Liffey Meats, the ideal applicant should be experienced in livestock handling and farming as well as being self-motivated, reliable, and hardworking.

Other traits of the ideal candidate include being:

Organised, with excellent attention to detail;
A confident communicator;
Capable of working independently and as part of a team;
Professional, responsible and committed to high standards;
Relevant agricultural qualifications or experience would be an advantage.
