Solar company, Local Power Ltd. has welcomed the announcement by German solar PV panel manufacturer, Solarwatt, that it has extended its guaranteed performance warranties to 90% efficiency on their current production of glass-glass solar PV modules.
Solarwatt’s 30-year product and performance warranties also include cover for parts, labour and transportation costs.
The option is attractive to farmers as a five-year independent all-risk insurance cover, provided by AON, is also available for the whole solar PV system installation.
Local Power has been installing solar PV systems on farms in Ireland since 2016 and is credited with introducing a glass-glass solar PV panel solution to the Irish market.
At the time, glass-glass panels were seen as more expensive and unnecessary when compared to the market standard glass-foil options.
But Smith said he and his team that the advisory service now recognises the merits of the glass-glass panel design option, especially on Irish farms.
Solar warranties
Welcoming the extended warranties announcement from Solarwatt, Local Power Ltd., managing director, Pat Smith, said:

Smith applauded Solarwatt’s move to retain and enhance its five-year all-risk insurance cover for systems installed using Solarwatt’s glass-glass technology.
He said: “This enhanced insurance cover will provide comfort to clients concerned about damage risks from weather, electrical storms, and power surges from an all-too-often unstable grid.”
Smith also welcomed the recent 10-year warranty extension provided by Austrian inverter manufacturers, Fronius, and said that Local Power Ltd., clients can now avail of parts and labour cover for up to 20 years, at an additional cost.
