Bord na Móna has awarded scholarships to 10 Irish students which will include a monetary grant and work placements, among other supports.

These scholarships are part of Bord na Móna’s ‘Pathways to the Future’ programme, which was launched last year to provide work experience and financial supports for individuals interested in pursuing studies and building a career in climate solutions and renewable energy.

The scholarship pathway specifically will have places for ten students in third level education across Ireland and will provide opportunities for young people to work on the front line of climate action and sustainable economic development.

In a statement, Bord na Móna said the cost of studies and student life can present a challenge for some students in third level education, which is why the company has created a dedicated fund to provide financial support through its ten scholarships.

The scholarship recipients include Julieta Rubis, Emily Lawless-Greene, Anmol Barigidad, Alex Gisca, Hannah Murphy, Oisin Spain, Joe McDonagh, Leanne Hickey, Hafiz Muhammed Farooq and Aoife Gaughan,

They were recently acknowledged at an event in Bord na Móna’s headquarters in Newbridge, Co. Kildare by chief executive Tom Donnellan and head of human relations (HR) and corporate affairs, Sharon Doyle.

Doyle said: “The ‘Pathways to the Future’ programme is a great opportunity for young professionals and students alike to get good experience and support in pursuing a career or their studies in sustainability and climate solutions.

“We look forward in particular to welcoming the ten new students onto our scholarship programme and wish them the very best of luck on their respective academic paths.”

When applying to the scholarship scheme, these applicants were required to submit a business case on a net zero economy in Ireland.

The eligible candidates also needed to be enrolled in undergraduate studies (level 8), masters or doctoral studies.
