Sheep trade: Lamb price slips again despite some cull ewe offers holding

This week's sheep trade sees lamb prices cut by another 20-30c/kg since last Monday (August 10), but cull ewe price offers have continued to hold largely firm.

This year has seen lamb prices hold firm longer than usual, remaining at €9.00/kg and above in cases well into July.

Despite this, lamb prices are back approximately €1.70/kg or over €37/head in the past 10 weeks, but it is not uncommon for lamb prices to ease as the season progresses.

New season lamb tends to be scarce and in high demand early in the year, but as the summer and autumn progresses, more lamb comes available and prices can decline.
