Prize winning lambs at the Easter lamb show and sale at Raphoe Mart in Co. Donegal fetched a price of €360/head.

There was a large entry for the sheep sale on Monday, March 25, which was held in conjunction with the annual Easter lamb show and sale.

Prizewinners were as follow:

  • 1st prize winning lambs (58kg) were exhibited by Joshua Millar and purchased by Kerrs Butchers, Falcarragh for €360 each;
  • 2nd prize winning lambs (48kg) were also exhibited by Joshua Millar and purchased by McGettigans Butchers, Main Street, Milford for €300 each;
  • 3rd prize winning lambs (58kg) were exhibited by John McConnell and purchased by McCarron Butchers, Raphoe for €335 each.

Other butchers who supported the sale were: Ciaran’s Butchers, Raphoe, Doherty’s Butchers, Clonmany, McElwaine Butchers, Kilmacrennan and McLaughlin Butchers, Carndonagh.

The show and sale was sponsored by Kiernan Milling.

Raphoe Mart thanked all the sellers who exhibited stock today and all the buyers who supported our sale.

Thanks was also offered to the judge on the day, Alison McCrabbe for her professionalism in carrying out her task.

The regular sheep sale held on the day saw these other prices around the ring:

Spring lambs sold from:

  • €150 to €180 for 38-44kg
  • €180 to €220 for 45-50kg

Hoggets sold from:

  • €120 to €150 for 30-41kg
  • €150 to €180 for 42-46kg
  • €180 to €218 for 46-55kg

Ewes with one lamb sold from €150/team to €235/team, and ewes with two lambs sold from €200/team to €375/team.

Fat ewes sold from €70/head to a high of €314/head.

While there will be no sheep sale on Monday, April 1, on account of the bank holiday, the weekly sheep sales will resume from Monday, April 8 and onwards.
