A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for parts of the country by Met Eireann and is set to remain in place until tomorrow.

Met Eireann has issued a rainfall warning for counties Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois and Offaly. Between 30mm and 40mm of rain is expected to fall in these areas over the next 24 hours.

The warning was issued at lunchtime today and is set to remain in place until 1:00pm on Saturday, May 13.

Met Eireann has forecast that heavy showers and windy conditions are set to bring an end to the recent spell of dry and sunny weather this weekend.

Over the course of the weekend there is expected to be a number of heavy showers. There is a risk of some of these showers turning thundery, while localised flooding is also a possibility in some areas.

The rest of today is forecast to be mostly cloudy with some scattered outbreaks of rain. Temperatures are set to remain in the mid-teens.

Tomorrow

A dry and bright start is expected for many places tomorrow, Saturday. Some lingering rain around Ulster and north Leinster is set to clear northeastwards.

Another band of rain, with the risk of some heavier bursts, is forecast to arrive on the west Munster coast around mid-morning.

This band of rain is likely to track northeastwards over the country during the afternoon and evening.

Many places are expected to remain dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells, but showers may affect Atlantic coastal counties tomorrow night.

Sunday

Sunday is set to bring a mix of sunshine and showers, as top temperatures range from 13° to 16°. It is forecast to turn increasingly cloudy and windier from the southwest towards evening.

A band of rain is expected to spread northeastwards over Munster and Connacht by sundown.

Sunday night is likely to bring some wet and windy conditions. Rain is forecast countrywide on Sunday night.
