Patches of rain will mix in with some dry spells this week, as temperatures hover in the low-teens, according to Met Eireann – following on from last week’s storms.

Light rain and drizzle is expected to clear this morning, with a few bright spells developing. However, mist and fog may linger along southern coasts.

A few showers are likely this afternoon in some areas, with temperatures ranging from 13º to 16º in moderate to fresh south to south-west breezes.

It is set to stay mainly dry tonight, with some clear spells. But rain is forecast to develop in the south-west around midnight – this band of rain will then spread eastwards to all areas overnight along with fresh, gusty south-west winds. Temperatures may drop to as low as 7º overnight.

According to Met Eireann, drying conditions will be variable over the week ahead. Similarly, there will be limited opportunities for spraying in the coming days – with conditions probably best on Wednesday and occasionally thereafter, it added.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann explained that soils are saturated at the moment, with waterlogged conditions in moderately and poorly drained soils. Despite the water table being very high, it is hoped that there will be a slight improvement later in the week during a period of drying.

Tomorrow

It will be mostly cloudy tomorrow, Tuesday, with rain in all areas at times though the day. Highest temperatures of between 14º and 16º, with moderate south-west breezes expected.

Rain is set to clear eastwards tomorrow night, with clearer weather taking its place. Temperatures may drop to between 7º and 10º.

Wednesday

Conditions are forecast to be dry and sunny on Wednesday, as temperatures range from 12º to 15º in moderate south-west breezes.

Later on Wednesday night, rain and drizzle will move up from the south, according to Met Eireann.

Outlook

It will be mostly cloudy over the southern half of the country on Thursday, with outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Further north, some bright or sunny spells are also likely.

Temperatures will reach highs of between 14º in light variable breezes. On Thursday night, most places will be dry. However, there’ll be further outbreaks of rain and drizzle in Munster.

Friday will be dry with sunny spells, in light variable or northwest breezes, according to Met Eireann.

Early indications suggest that next weekend will be mainly dry with sunny spells, but a few showers may develop in some parts of the country over the course of the weekend.
