'Milestone' Arva Agricultural Show set to take place on Sunday, July 26

Arva Agricultural Show in Co. Cavan is set to host its annual agricultural show on Sunday, July 26.

The 2026 edition is a milestone year for the event, marking 70 years since the first Arva Agricultural Show took place in 1956.

The official launch of the show took place at the Breifne Arms Hotel in Arva on Saturday, June 20 with former Macra president Thomas Duffy and Agriland technical beef specialist Breifne O'Brien present as guest speakers on the night.

Entries are now open for the show and speaking to Agriland, with Arva show public relations officer Shane Dobson predicting that this year's event will be a special one.

Commenting on just some of the key attractions, he said: "This year's event will include a broad range of classes across seven different categories."

The categories are:

  • Equestrian;
  • Cattle;
  • Sheep;
  • Goats;
  • Poultry;
  • Dog show (Entries taken on the day);
  • Home industries.

Dobson added: "With the 2026 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final also taking place on the show day, there will be a big screen at the event to watch all the live action from the football also.

"We will also have live music and a jiving competition on the day, with free entry for kids and a great family day out promised."

All Ireland dairy beef animal

Class 114 on the day will feature the Lakeland Dairies All Ireland Best Dairy Bred Beef Animal, with a prize fund of €1,000 available in this class on the day.

Entry is confined to male and female cattle that are the progeny of a dairy herd in the Republic of Ireland.

As well as this, there will also be a range of classes for pedigree and non-pedigree sheep and cattle as well as the young handler classes.

With over 300 classes to be judged across seven different categories on the day, the schedule is jam-packed with plenty of activity and excitement promised.
