Met Éireann has said that the coming week will be unsettled with periods of rain and showers across the country.

The national forecaster said that this morning (Monday, March 11) will be cloudy with light rain or drizzle, the odd bright spell too.

During the afternoon rain will arrive in Munster and Connacht and will extend to much of Leinster and south Ulster by evening.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 7° to 11°C, light southwesterly or variable winds will freshen in the southwest later in the day.

A Status Yellow weather warning has been issued for Cork and Kerry for rain, high tides and onshore winds which may lead to localised flooding and wave overtopping.

The warning will come into force from 3:00p.m today until 3:00p.m on Tuesday (March 12).

Rain and drizzle will become patchier in many parts overnight. Lowest temperatures of 3° in the north to 10° in the southwest, the variable wind will be mostly moderate to fresh, strong at times in the southwest.

It will be cloudy and breezy on Tuesday with rain and drizzle, the heaviest falls in the southwest.

The southwesterly winds will be moderate to fresh, strong in the west and northwest of the country. Highest afternoon temperatures of 10° to 14°. There is a risk of coastal flooding due to the unusually high tides.

Persistent rain will arrive in the west and northwest on Tuesday night and push southeastwards during the night, becoming lighter later. The southwesterly winds will be moderate to fresh and gusty in some areas, lowest temperatures of 5° to 10°.

The rain will clear from the southeast on Wednesday morning (March 13), dry in many places in the afternoon, but there will be some showers in the northwest. Another ban of rain will move in from the south during the evening.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 9° to 12°in light to moderate southwest to westerly winds, stronger in the northwest.

On Wednesday night the rain will spread northwards, lowest temperatures of 3° to 8° in light to moderate easterly or southerly breezes.

Thursday (March 14) will be cloudy with rain or showers, moderate south to southwesterly winds and highest afternoon temperatures of 10° to 15°.

It will be mostly cloudy with rain or showers on Friday morning (March 15) but it may become drier and brighter during later in the day. Highest temperatures of 10° to 14°

Current indications suggest the weekend will be continue unsettled with rain and showers.

Met Éireann said that rainfall total for the coming week will be above normal with between 20-60mm expected, which is up to four times the weekly average for March.

It will become milder by midweek, the cloudy and breezy conditions will limit overnight frosts in most areas. Mean soil temperatures will continue above average.

Drying conditions will be moderate or poor with rain or showers on most days, while opportunities for spraying will generally be limited.

All soils are currently close to saturated with most poorly drained soils either waterlogged or approaching that.

The national forecaster said that there will be a slight improvement in soil conditions over the coming days in the north and northwest, but further deterioration will occur from midweek.
