Met Éireann has said that there will be mixed weather conditions for the St. Patrick’s weekend, with sunshine, rain and showers expected.

The national forecaster said it will be cloudy and damp in most areas this morning (Friday, March 15) with some patchy rain or drizzle.

Brighter and drier weather will arrive later in the morning and extend eastwards with sunny spells in the afternoon.

Highest temperatures of 9° to 13°C in moderate northwesterly winds which will ease as the day progresses.

Tonight will be cold and clear with the possibility of frost forming in places, rain and drizzle will move into the south and west where southwesterly winds will freshen.

Overnight temperatures of -1° to 2°, feeling coldest in north Leinster and Ulster.

Weather

Saturday (March 16) will be a wet and breezy day with rain extending across the country with moderate to fresh southerly winds. Highest temperatures of 9° to 13°.

It will be cloudy on Saturday night and the rain will become patchier, some dry spells in places. The southwesterly winds will be moderate, while overnight temperatures will range from 6° to 10°.

Sunday (St. Patrick’s Day) will be cloudy to start, sunny spells and scattered showers for the rest of the day, some of the showers could be heavy. It will be mild with highest temperatures of 12° to 15°, southwesterly winds will be light to moderate.

Sunday night will bring a mixture of clear spells and rain in light to moderate southerly breezes. Overnight temperatures of 5° to 8°.

Monday (March 18) will be sunny in many areas with some well scattered showers, cloudier in the south where there will be patchy rain and drizzle. It will feel mild and humid with highest temperatures of 12° to 15°.

Tuesday (March 19) will be a breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers across the country.

Met Éireann

Met Éireann has said that it will stay unsettled for the next week, with above average rainfall expected.

Highest rainfall amounts are expected in western coastal areas, with 30 to 50mm forecast.

Milder weather is predicted for the coming week, with mean air temperatures between 8° to 10°.

Drying conditions will be generally poor and opportunities for spraying will be limited this week.

The national meteorological service said that all soils are currently saturated or waterlogged.

A slight improvement in the condition of well and moderately drained soils over the next seven days is forecast, but many will remain saturated. Poorly drained soils will remain waterlogged.
