Golden Vale Marts held their weekly stock sale in the Tullamore Mart venue on Monday (July 20), where weanling bulls saw a tremendous trade.
In a mart report issued after the sale, the trade was described as stronger this week, with a "notable presence of shippers ringside driving demand for lighter bull weanlings".
The top call per kg of the sale went to a Limousin-cross weanling bull weighing 330kg who made €2,060 at €6.24/kg.
Other noticeable sales from the lighter weanling sale included the €1,820 paid for a 305kg Charolais-cross bull, equivalent to €5.97/kg, and a 215kg Limousin-cross bull that sold for €1,230 at €5.72/kg.

The standout price was the €2,390 paid for a 425kg Charolais-cross weanling bull, making €5.62/kg.

The weaning heifer trade remained very solid according to the report.
One 330kg Charolais-cross weanling heifer sold for €1,910 or €5.79/kg, while a 340kg Hereford-cross weanling heifer sold for €1,420 at €4.18/kg.
Another 315kg Limousin-cross weanling heifer sold for €1,860 at €5.90/kg.

There was a large entry of calves and runners which met a very strong demand for the time of year with a full clearance.
Three Hereford-cross calves sold for €900/head, while five Angus-cross calves sold for €880/head. One Saler cross calf sold for €800, while another two Saler calves sold for €760/head.
The Tullamore trade saw €2,780/head paid for two Belgian Blue suckler cows weighing €320kg each, with a calf at foot.
Another strong price was the €2,980/head paid for two Simmental cows each weighing 392.5kg, with calves at foot.
Two heavier Hereford-cross suckler cows weighing 735kg on average sold for €2,140/head at €2.91/kg.
