Tullow Livestock Sales held its weekly cattle sale in Tullow Mart, Co. Carlow, on Friday (July 10), where the trade was described as "blistering" with cattle up by €80-€120 per head on last week's sale.
Store heifers saw a strong price this week, ranging from €3.60-€4.75/kg while heavier beef heifers saw prices between €3.50-€4.50/kg.
A number of bulls were on sale, with the price/kg ranging from €3.80-€4.60/kg. A Belgian Blue bull weighing 350kg sold for €1,840 at €5.26/kg.
Speaking to Agriland after the sale, Tullow Mart manager Eric Drivers commented on the increase in demand, saying there was "very noticeable demand for beef with current factory prices been left wanting within ringside prices".
Store bullocks met a very good trade with the prices ranging from €3.75-€4.85 per kg. Heavier beef bullocks ranged from €3.60-€4.33/kg.
Two Charolais-cross bullocks weighing 455kg each sold for €2,200/head or €4.84/kg. A pen of four Belgian Blue bulls weighing 410kg each, sold for €1,650 or €4.02/kg.

The cull cow trade saw Friesian cull cows go for between €2.20-€3.10/kg, with "fat culls" going for €2.70-€3.50/kg.

Weanling bulls continued to see a good trade at Tullow with prices ranging from €4.20-€5.25/kg. This trend of weanlings making above €5.00/kg has been seen in marts around the country.
The runner trade saw Friesians making from €550-€820/head, with continental bulls making between €800-€1,120/head, while continental heifers made between €720-€1,060/head.
Calves continue to attract high prices at Tullow. Friesian calves made between €250-€380/head. Continentals saw another good week of trade, with continental bull calves fetching between €320-€580/head.
Continental heifer calves saw calls from €300-€490/head, with Angus bull calves making €300-€520/head, while Angus-cross heifer calves sold for €250-€420/head.
