Clare Co-Operative mart held its weekly sale in Ennis on Thursday (July 9), with numbers just shy of 550 through the ring as prices held with minor uplifts for cows and heifers.

In a report by the mart, the sale was described as being a "good size for this time of year".

There were a large entry of aged bulls, with 20 on offer. These bulls averaged €3.53/kg with the top call going to a Limousin bull weighing 1,115kg that made €4,400 or €3.95/kg.

Some bullock sample prices from the sale can be seen below:

A pen of three Charolais-cross bullocks weighing on average 653kg each, sold for €2,870/head or €4.39/kg;
A pen of three Charolais-cross bullocks weighing on average 717kg each, sold for €2,980/head or €4.16/kg;
A 890kg Charolais-cross bullock sold for €3,560 or €4.00/kg;
A pen of two Angus-cross bullocks weighing on average 677kg each, sold for €2,790/head or €4.12/kg;
A 740kg Angus-cross bullock sold for €2,970 or €4.01/kg;
A pen of three Friesian cross bullocks weighing on average 696kg each, sold for €2,690/head or €3.86/kg;
A pen of five Hereford cross bullocks weighing on average 593kg each, sold for €2,350/head or €3.96/kg.

The heifer trade saw a minor uplift with an average rise of 5c/kg across the board, with heavy heifers seeing an increase of 10c/kg.

This would see a 650kg heifer make an additional €65/head on last week's price.

A 635kg Hereford-cross heifer sold for €2,460 or €3.87/kg;
A pen of three Charolais-cross heifers weighing on average 442kg each, sold for €1,950/head or €4.41/kg;
A pen of seven Charolais-cross heifers weighing on average 432kg each, sold for €1,890/head or €4.37/kg.

The cull cow sale was strong with a "good yard of cull cows available".

Quality culls in the 650-750kg weight range were up 10c/kg on last week's trade.

There are weekly cattle sales every Thursday in Ennis Mart, and young stock sales every Tuesday, as well as sheep sales every Monday.
