A man who sadly passed away in an accident involving a tractor on a farm in Co. Antrim will be laid to rest later today.
The man has been named locally as James Moore, a part-time farmer. Moore – who was in his late 40s – was killed while at his own farm in the Lowtown Road area of Templepatrick, which is just a couple of miles north of Belfast, on Sunday, August 5.
It is believed a tractor was involved in the accident in which Moore was fatally injured. The Health and Safety Executive of Northern Ireland (HSENI) is believed to be investigating the incident.
The part-time farmer will be laid to rest in Antrim Cemetery later today; a service of thanksgiving for his life will be held in Bairds Funeral Home in Antrim at 2:00pm.
This is believed to the third farm fatality recorded in Northern Ireland in 2017 and it comes just over a week after the Farm Safety Week initiative came to an end.
Dramatic rescue
In late July, a young boy was rescued after being seriously injured on a farm in the Castlewellan area of Co. Down; this incident also reportedly involved a tractor.
The 11-year-old boy was injured in an accident on Saturday, July 22, prior to 2:00pm.
This service would have seriously reduced the time it would have taken to get the child to the hospital for treatment. This is believed to be the first time the new air ambulance service was called into action.
