Make the Moove, the national mental health and wellbeing charity for farmers and rural communities, has announced that it is extending its support services over Christmas.

The charity, established by Macra, said that its confidential support line – 086 084 0442 – will remain operational throughout the festive period, offering support between 9:00a.m and 9:00p.m each day from December 23 to January 1.

The support line is available to answer calls directly, whenever an operator is available.

If the team are busy assisting others, callers can leave a message with their phone number, and a member of the team call back as soon as possible.

All calls are confidential, and operators are dedicated to providing support and practical advice to those in need.

Dr Conor Holohan, programme director for Make the Moove, said that Christmas is often seen as a time of joy and togetherness, but for many it can also bring heightened stress, isolation, and emotional strain.

“We understand that Christmas can be a really challenging period for many people.

“This time of year often amplifies feelings of isolation, worry, and sadness. By keeping our support line open, we aim to provide a safe, confidential space where anyone struggling can find comfort and hope,” he said.

The Make the Moove team, which relies heavily on the generosity of donors to maintain its services, has thanked its partners Macra and FBD, along with those who held fundraisers and made contributions during 2024.
