First seen on the range-topping 1000 Series tractors, Fendt now offers ‘flat-face’ hydraulic couplings (FFCs) as optional extras on its 800 and 900 Series models.
The advantages, says Fendt, over conventional fittings are easier attachment, higher operating pressures and fewer leaks. They are also easy to wipe down and keep clean.
Roland Schmidt, Fendt Marketing Director, explained: “The flat-face design allows for operation at full pressure, thus preventing oil leaks. With pressure losses eliminated, the oil does not heat up as much, so the energy does not get squandered.
“Also, conventional hydraulic couplings are very difficult to keep clean. This results in the ingress of dirt in the hydraulic circuit. In contrast, the absolutely flat surface of these flat-sealing hydraulic couplings makes cleaning an easy task while, at the same time, the extremely low level of dirt ingress also extends the filter change interval.
“The fact that the coupling insert components are easy to dismantle is also a great help for maintenance. This system virtually eliminates the need for repair work resulting from damaged couplings and connectors,” he said.
FFCs can be screwed into position; they can be interchanged with standard hydraulic fittings.
“With our system, the customer can equip his hydraulic system [valve block] with different sizes of coupling – adapted to suit his own requirements. As well as the 1/2in coupling, the one used most frequently, there is a 3/4in coupling and a new 5/8in outlet,” he added.
FFCs come, as standard, with “high flow rates” (140L/min or optionally up to 170L/min).
A lever allows attachment under pressure (like previous systems) and a ‘tear-away’ (or break-away) system is incorporated, if you forget to remove a pipe. Fendt has also retained its “familiar” colour coding system – for connecting the right pipe to the matching outlet.
