The Landini Smart Cab has now come to Ireland, but what can people expect from it?

Three Serie 7 tractors (a 7-165, 7-180, and 7-230) were on display at Landini Tractors Ireland's stall at the 2026 National Ploughing Championships.

The Serie 7 tractors featured Landini's Smart Cab, which the company has called "the best of innovation".

The aim for the cab is to replicate the comfort of an office workspace while maximising efficiency for operators.

Comfort

With a focus on increased comfort, Landini has designed its Smart Cab to have a 14% increase in interior volume.

This results in 8cm extra height, which combined with an addition 12cm of seat travel, should provide additional comfort for taller operators.

The wider cabin also provides extra visibility with 14% more glass area, including a 6% increase to the windscreen's surface area.

The Alcantara-upholstered air-conditioned seat features a sliding headrest, electronic suspension, and automatic height adjustment.

The seat rotates 30° to the right and 10° to the left, allowing for more flexible usability.

Landini's Smart Cab has numerous compartments around the cabin, including an 8.6L refrigerated compartment.

Each storage area is designed with the aim of keeping the workspace uncluttered and functional.

The cab's electrohydraulic semi-active suspension system is designed to minimise shocks and vibrations through three different shock-absorbing comfort levels to match terrain or driver preference.

The suspension system isolates the cab from the chassis, which Landini said reduces vibrations and shocks and requires no maintenance.

The Italian company claimed the cab limits noise levels to 66dBA, meaning that the noise of loud agricultural machinery should have a decreased impact on operators.

The climate control system is made up of nine vents that are "quiet and highly efficient".

The cab's coated windows are designed to filter UV rays and ensure up to 6°C lower temperature variations when compared to ordinary glass, Landini said.

Technology

Launched alongside the Smart Cab, Landini's DSM Plus is a significant update to the monitor system in the company's tractors.

The full-HD system pairs a 12in main touch-screen monitor with a separate 12in digital instrument cluster dashboard to replace the somewhat dated DSM for tractor settings and gauges on the dashboard.

Agricultural operators are able to save up to five different functions, adjust 12 full LED work lights fitted on the cab roof for better visibility during night-time work; and save general settings, including menus, configurations and language through the system.

They can also set up and modify headland management sequences (even when the tractor is stationary) through it as well as saving and recalling settings for the joystick, engine, remotes and front/rear hitches.

In addition to the functional displays, the Smart Cab has a 7in touchscreen multimedia display.

The multimedia system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, meaning a wide range of apps can be used on the system, such as Spotify and Waze.

The system is Bluetooth, meaning operators can make hands-free calls, read messages while working and, when combined with the DAB+ and Alpine speakers, allows for interference-free audio, more stations than FM radio, and music.

The Serie 7 comes with Landini's EazySteer quick-steering system that aims to minimise operator fatigue.

This system cuts the number of steering wheel turns required from lock to lock, leading to minimal physical input and more precise steering adjustments.

Landini says the new multifunction armrest's controls are "logically arranged" for improved precision and efficency.

The right-hand console houses auxiliary controls, two 12V sockets and an ISOBUS connection.

According to the Italian manufacturer, functions controlled by buttons can be automated and replicated on the EasyPilot joystick.

On the exterior of the cabin, 20 adjustable full LED work lights and four full LED driving lights provide 360° light.

Two long-range lights are included to illuminate the ends of implements from the rear of the cab.

Argo Tractors Ireland

Argo Tractors Ireland general manager, Kevin Phelan called the Smart Cab "a big step up".

"A lot of investment has gone into the product over the last 12 years, and you're seeing the results of it with the Serie 7 first and now with the Smart Cab.

"We have our own GPS system, which is competitively priced; our remote diagnostic and fleet management dome unit is now integrated into the roof of the cab, so all that's sticking up on top now is your GPS," he said.

Phelan added that he could see this updated cab influencing Argo Tractor's market share.

He explained: "We're very competitively priced, and we're now at the stage in the market where people are looking at the cost of ownership, the cost of running the tractors, the cost of operations."

Phelan pointed that outside of the cab, the Serie 7 tractors use the FPT N67 engine, which he said is known for efficiency and reliability.

According to Phelan, the cab was received well at the National Ploughing Championships.

"I think people were pleasantly surprised," he said.

"There were people surprised with the product and people familiar with the older cab that were pleasantly surprised with the Smart Cab when they sat into it,"

According to Phelan, when these tractors come to Ireland, they will provide an option that's "tailored to the operator".

"I think this cab should really facilitate us and help us gain some market share," he said.

Agriland competition

Farmers can enter a competition here on Agriland to win the use of a Landini Serie 7 (the tractor featuring this cab) for a year.

The winner will have the use of a Serie 7 tractor from mid-January until mid-December 2027 or for 750 recorded operating hours, whichever comes first.
