The autumn demo season is upon us and it is Kverneland which is next out of the block, with an open day on October 3 at Hayestown (M1, junction 6), Co. Dublin from 10:00a.m onwards.
Thankfully, this season has not been quite so dire as last with a bout of late summer warmth that expediated the harvest and autumn cultivations, and with the easing of conditions, the machinery trade is hoping for a little more sales activity.
This was certainly an elevation in spirits at Ploughing 2024, with the Kverneland sales team being cautiously optimistic at the close of the three days, and it is this they are looking to build upon at the working day.
Kverneland ploughs
The emphasis of the day is on primary cultivation with two ploughs and a sturdy disc set working alongside a trailed cultivator and power harrow/drill combination, a range of machines which covers the majority of tillage operations here in Ireland.
Starting with the ploughs, there will be a 3300S with the companies new No 40 bodies, which are recommended for abrasive, wet, heavy, sticky, stony conditions. It suits large tractor tyres and is said to reduce the draught requirement.
The second plough is a five furrow ES unit. This is from the bread and butter range of ploughs from Kverneland, and on the day, it will be matched with Packomat furrow press, consolidating the soil in readiness for final seedbed preparation.
Secondary cultivations
The disc set in use will be a 5m trailed unit from the Qualidisc range, which are described as compact harrows due to the close coupling of the two banks of discs. It is intended for both primary and secondary cultivations.
A 4m trailed Enduro is a traditional heavy duty sprung tine cultivator that can work to depths of 35cm on the pro models. Discs and consolidating rollers then leave a level, well-aerated seedbed according to the company.
An alternative to the established plough and till system is one pass seeding, and Kverneland has this covered as well, in the form of a Rotago F power harrow with F-Drill and front hopper.
It has a multitude of settings enabling it to adapted to a wide range of conditions and the drill is claimed to give precise seed placement enhancing crop establishment and growth.
There will also be a range of Seeding and CropCare equipment on display, including Kverneland sprayers, such as the T4 trailed sprayer and the TL Geospread fertiliser spreader.
